WASHINGTON, D.C. – Micaela O’Toole scored with 4:11 left in the first overtime to defeat Radford, 3-2, on a rainy and cool afternoon from American University’s Jacobs Field. Sophomore Courtney Poole (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) scored a pair of first half goals for the Highlanders.

Box Score

In the overtime session, the Highlanders (9-9) had several opportunities, including a two-on-zero break and a pair of cornesr, but could not convert.

On the game-winner, the Hoyas went on a 2-on-1 break after a missed tackle in the midfield. The initial shot was saved by Jen Wisniewski (Centreville, Va./Westfield), but O’Toole corralled the rebound and knocked into the cage.

Earlier in overtime, Wisniewski kept the Highlanders alive, making a tremendous stick save on another Hoya break. She finished with three saves, while GU’s Briana Pereira stopped nine shots.

The Highlanders outshot the Hoyas, 17-13 with each team earning 10 corners. Defensivly for Radford, junior Megan Lenhardt (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) made her sixth defensive save of the year.

The Highlanders struck early on their first corner of the match when Poole deflected freshman Stephanie Cox’s (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) shot into the roof of the cage 3:44 into the match.

Kristen Volpe tied it for Georgetown in the 26th minute on a corner. Katy Wingo and Annika Bannon assisted on the play.

Poole struck again 32 seconds before halftime, rifling a low shot in from the right after a nice run and slip from classmate Madonna Wadolowski (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon). It was Poole’s team-leading eighth and ninth goal, while Wadolowski notched her team-best eighth assist.

Georgetown tied with just over 10 minutes to play. Charlotte Tierney knocked in a ball that was in midair after a flick by Annie Wilson over the keeper from the right baseline.

Radford heads to Stanford, Calif. for the 2009 NorPac Championships. The Highlanders, who are the top seed in the East, will take on UC Davis, the West’s fourth seed, on Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
