CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A new school record in the women’s pole vault, and a first-place performance in the men’s 3,000m highlighted the weekend for the Radford outdoor track & field teams at the Charlotte 49er Invitational at Irwin Belk Track.
Freshman Lindsey Noe (Goldvein, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) set the school’s new record in the pole vault with a height of 3.10m (10’2”), breaking the five-year-old mark of 2.99m. In the event, Noe finished in 10th place.
Senior Dawit Legesse (Springfield, Va./Robert E. Lee) topped the field in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:32.08, setting his new personal-best mark. Following just behind in the event was classmate Joel Hanlon (Winchester, Va./Millbrook), whose third-place time of 8:33.45 was also good for a personal-best.
Other highlights from women’s competition included sophomore Ashlyn Sinclair’s (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) seventh-place finish and time of 4:46.58, and 11th-place finish of 4:52.24 by sister Halsey Sinclair in the event. Both times were personal-bests, and are the top two times in the Big South this season.
In field events, sophomore Rebecca Carbo (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) posted a personal-best and fourth-place finish in the hammer throw at 41.33m (135’7”).
Men’s highlights included senior Olajuwon Jones’ (Indianapolis, Ind./Speedway) showing in the 400m dash, advancing to the finals with a time of 48 seconds, a new personal-best and just hundredths of a second off the school record. In the finals, Jones clocked a time of 48.01, good for third among collegiate competitors.
Freshman Brett Olinger (Timberville, Va./Broadway) finished third in the finals of the 400m hurdles with a time of 54.16, the best mark in the Big South this season.
In the 200m dash preliminaries, junior Raschad Kelso (Appomattox, Va./Appomattox) set a new personal-best with a time of 21.70.
Field bests included top-ten showings from senior Matt Dobson (Centreville, Va./Chantilly) in the hammer throw (1st - 55.84m), shot put (4th – 15.38m) and discus (7th – 43.17m).
