LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior
Raschad Kelso’s (Appomattox, Va./Appomattox) 200m school-record time and NCAA qualifying mark highlighted competition for the Radford track & field teams Thursday night at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier.
Kelso ran seventh in the field with a time of 21.31, besting his previous record of 21.42 set two weeks ago at the Big South championships and topping the NCAA Regional qualifying time by four hundredths of a second. His time was the second-best in the Big South this season.
Senior
Matt Dobson (Centreville, Va./Chantilly) posted the top hammer throw mark at 55.77m (183-00), and classmate
Jordan Purvis (Waynesboro, Va./Waynesboro) finished in third place, less than 10 feet behind, at 54.06m (177-04). Purvis posted a new personal-best with his throw.
Top performances on the women’s side included a first-place javelin showing from senior
Michelle Baird (Ottawa, Ontario/Univ. of Charleston), who tossed a personal-best 37.73m (123-09).
Aimee Veatch
(Roanoke, Va./Cave Spring), the 2009 Big South Freshman of the Year, finished second in the hammer throw at 55.82m (183-02), her second-best and the league’s second-best throw of the season.
