Smith Breaks Shot Put School Record at Nationals

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Justin Smith (Dayton, Va./Turner Ashby) recorded a new school record in the shot put and placed seventeenth to highlight the trio of Radford track and field participants at the 2009 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. 

Smith, who placed second at the Big South Championship, broke James Nixon’s three year old record with a throw of 16.71-meters (54-10 feet). 

Freshman Brett Olinger (Timberville, Va./Broadway) was the highest finishing Highlander with a sixteenth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles while Kyle Morse (Northfield, Mass./Northfield Mount Herman) placed 27th in the open division of the men’s hammer throw.
