2009-10 Schedule
RADFORD, Va. – Four contests against postseason participants, along with a 16-game Big South slate highlight the 2009-10 Radford women’s basketball schedule, head coach
Tajama Ngongba announced today.
“We are very pleased with the schedule we have put together,” stated Ngongba. “Playing four teams that went to post season play last year is going to be a challenge that we happily embrace.”
Following their season opener at William & Mary on Nov. 15, the Highlanders will play four of their next five games at home, including a three-game Thanksgiving break homestand that includes Mount St. Mary’s (Nov. 21), local rival Virginia Tech (Nov. 25) and Howard (Nov. 29).
December will be a challenging month for Radford as six of eight games will be played away from the Dedmon Center. The month will feature dates at West Virginia (Dec. 2), North Carolina (Dec. 8) and VCU (Dec. 12) and Richmond (Dec. 21), all of which made 2009 postseason appearances.
“Competing against programs of this caliber (postseason participants) will prepare us for the tough competition in the Big South,” said Ngongba.
Prior to beginning a 16-game Big South Conference slate to conclude the regular season, Radford will conclude 2009 and its longest road swing (four games) of the season at Hampton (Dec. 23) and Marshall (Dec. 31).
After their conference opener on the road at 2009 conference runner-up Gardner-Webb, the Highlanders return to the Dedmon Center for its longest homestand (four-game) of the season against High Point (Jan. 9), 2009 WNIT participant Winthrop (Jan. 11), UNC Asheville (Jan. 16) and Presbyterian (Jan. 18).
Radford concludes January on the road with its annual “Beach Trip” to Coastal Carolina (Jan. 23) and Charleston Southern (Jan. 25).
After concluding the first half of Big South play at home against two-time defending champion Liberty on Feb. 1, Radford’s second half of its conference schedule includes three home and five away contests.
The 2010 Big South Tournament, hosted by High Point, will begin on March 12 and conclude with the championship game on Sunday, March 14. The 2010 champion will earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
